Crime and Punishment: Avoiding Punishment is Futile Essay -- Crime and

Avoiding punishment is futile. Whether in the form of proper trials or through guilt, every person will come face to face with the consequences of their actions. Avoiding suffering only causes it to intensify. This is mainly demonstrated through Svidrigailov and Raskolnikov in the end of Crime and Punishment. Both men had been eluding their various torments and they realize the vanity of their avoidance after receiving crushing mental blows. Raskolnikov and Svidrigailov realize that the time has come to recognize suffering and responsibility for previous actions. Raskolnikov’s inability to hide his guilt shines through in his actions. When trying to defend his innocence against Porfiry he utters childish defenses. His suffering has consumed him and â€Å"he ran out of breath, nearly choking† (541) as the conversation traversed into uncomfortable matters. The connotation here of â€Å"choking† reveals how deeply Raskolnikov’s inner pain has bore into him and the effect of it weighing down his lungs. Furthermore, his refusal of this opportunity given by Porfiry to take his punishment clearly demonstrates how Raskolnikov’s every action is now affected directly by his airflow. Logically he should realize his game is up, yet his pride and brain’s suffocation are so high he cannot comprehend sensibly. He sputters out his sentences, pausing, and gasping. On a deeper level his brain function is also affected by the oxygen flow. This is clearly conveyed by his callous behavior and lack of thought to his future endeavors. His desire to avoid discipline is dimming as he realizes his time to receive punishment is approaching. Preceding his nerve-rattling last conversation with Porfiry, Raskolnikov seems to be lost and disoriented. Ter... ...s well. However this journey does not involve physical death. It involves going to the police bureau he once feared and confessing his crime. Although he lacks breath and feels faint he is at last able to recount the details in entirety and his self-inflicted suffering ends to be followed by formal punishment, or â€Å"a clearly defined air†. Coming to terms with past mistakes and accepting their consequences is an agonizing process. Admitting fault for former missteps can seem titanic. Prideful characters such as Svidrigailov or Raskolnikov find this burdensome. However, in the end, choosing to embark on the journey of acceptance becomes necessary if one chooses to commit wickedness, an act that man must succumb to at some point. In Crime and Punishment this journey also allows the character’s suffocating mask to fall allowing them to breathe once more.

Life Is Beautiful Movie Essay

Toribio Part A All of the qoutations pretty much tells the same message. But for me Rabbi Barry H Block’s qoutation most strongly captures the essense of the film. As i read the qoutation †hope and laughter can bring light into even the darkest corner† affect me,it is because our country is in the list of poorest countries in the world. We need to work everyday under the sun just to buy food for our families. One thing that i am proud of being filipino is you can’t really tell if we have a problem because we are always smiling. One thing that makes every filipino happy is a karaoke machine, there is no family who doesn’t have one. I remember when I was still in the Philippines we sing for forever until we get the 100% score and we even sing until dawn. Thats why were proud of Jessica Sanchez 2nd runner up of American Idol because she get to show other people what filipinos got. Even if people don’t have any food or money in there we have our neighbours who shares what they have, that is love and were still smile and laugh even though deep inside were not. I focused more on the word †laughter† because it is really the best medicine. This response is more on emotional that intelectual because i experienced it before. Part B The three aspects of the film that illustrate the healing effect of story on human life are the direction, the funny scenes and the music. The way Roberto Benigni directed the film he is showing that life is not about laughter only. At first I didn’t expect the film to have a lonely part, in life you don’t know what is going to happen next and what to expect. One funny scene that i love is when Dora is been stung by a wasp and Guido asked her if she is stung in other places. The music of the movie is so calming and everytime I hear it I feel like I’m in a disco or a dance ball in the 90’s.

The Social Role Of The Nobility Changed From Those Who...

This essay proposes that across Europe between 1550 and 1800 the social role of the nobility changed from â€Å"those who fight’ to a broader role where political, professional and economic power had more significance. It will explore the parts of a noble’s role that continued and those that changed over the period. The essay is supported by primary source material such as contemporaneous writing, pictorial evidence of buildings and art and will draw on secondary source material taken from course work and independent study to indicate how this evolved elite used style and culture to portray an images of themselves that reflected the social changes in noble lifestyle. Charles Loyseau (1564-1627) in 1610 described three social orders they were: â€Å"those who pray, those who fight and the poor†. However Deborah Brunton expands Loyseau’s simplistic view (Brunton.D, 2016 p.22), by suggesting additional social layers, proposing that a nobles dominate d the social order in the 16th century by owning much of the land and wealth, however by the 18th century, wealthy merchants and bankers from the lower orders joined the elite. This new type of nobility provided a more diverse and broader range of political influence with the monarchy and government. Historians have engaged in debate regarding the metamorphosis of the nobility from landowners who fought when required to do so by their ruler, into the educated, political advisors and administrators of the crown.
